Forester's Day or Hammer Day is a traditional holiday celebrated in Germany on January 2. It is a deeply rooted pagan tradition that is particularly widespread in the border regions of Hesse and Thuringia, in Hainich and Eichsfeld.

Celebration
Forester's Day is celebrated in different ways in different regions of Germany and includes:

Parades and festivals. In some regions, parades are held where foresters demonstrate their skills as well as traditional ways of working with wood and forests.

Competitions. Various competitions are organized, such as rafting, tree felling, and competitions for the best forestry equipment. These events draw attention to the labor-intensive work of foresters.

Educational events. Forestry organizations and schools organize forest excursions, seminars, and workshops to introduce participants to various aspects of forestry and ecology.

Culinary traditions. In some regions, the celebration includes traditional dishes prepared with local produce, such as game and mushrooms, which highlight the connection with nature and the local ecosystem.
